Job Description:

We are recruiting a Management Accountant for an established and growing business based at its head office in Denbigh.

This is a varied role within a small finance team, reporting into senior finance leadership and taking responsibility for management accounting and financial control across several group companies.

A key initial project will be bringing the accounting for a number of smaller group entities fully in-house. You will work with external accountants to establish accurate opening balances, fixed asset registers and supporting schedules, before taking ownership of the ongoing monthly accounting.

Alongside this, you will be involved in budgeting and forecasting, balance sheet control, cash flow forecasting and intercompany accounting, as well as supporting systems improvements, new sites and acquisitions.

This would suit an experienced Management Accountant who enjoys taking ownership of their work, investigating discrepancies and improving processes rather than simply following an established month-end routine.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts across allocated group companies, including P&L and balance sheet

  • Bring accounting for smaller group entities in-house and establish robust ongoing processes

  • Prepare journals, accruals, prepayments and depreciation

  • Own balance sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve historical differences

  • Manage intercompany reconciliations across the group

  • Maintain fixed asset registers and capital expenditure records

  • Prepare and maintain budgets and forecasts

  • Monitor expenditure against budget and explain significant variances

  • Maintain cash flow forecasts for smaller group companies

  • Maintain debt, hire purchase and covenant schedules

  • Reconcile revenue and finance information between operational and accounting systems

  • Provide financial analysis and supporting schedules to senior finance colleagues and external advisers

  • Support year-end accounting and external queries

  • Contribute to finance systems improvements, automation and stronger financial controls

  • Support the financial integration of new sites and acquisitions

  • Take ownership of ad-hoc finance projects and see them through to completion

About you

We are looking for someone with strong practical management accounting experience who is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of their area.

AAT qualified, part-qualified, qualified by experience or qualified ACCA/CIMA. More important is your ability to produce reliable accounts, understand the balance sheet and investigate issues through to resolution.

You should have:

  • Strong month-end and management accounting experience

  • Good knowledge of journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations

  • Experience of budgeting and forecasting

  • Strong Excel and accounting systems skills

  • A practical understanding of financial controls

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills

  • The confidence to challenge discrepancies and inefficient processes

  • The ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines

  • Clear and professional communication skills

Experience of multi-entity accounting, intercompany reconciliations, Sage 200/Sage 50, acquisitions or bringing accounting processes in-house would be particularly useful, although not essential.

This is a fully office-based position and cannot be undertaken remotely.
